Connections After-School Program:
The
Youth Crossroads After School Program at Heritage Middle School
in Berwyn takes place 4 times each week throughout the school
year. 6th-8th grade students in the program receive help in
homework and participate in life skills curriculum and recreational
activities. Students also receive training from Youth Crossroads
YLP high school mentors in how to perform a community service
project. These mentors will teach students about the importance
of community service and lead them in a Holiday drive that will
benefit other members of the community.
Other
components of this program include field trips and family nights.
On field trips, youth will have the opportunity to explore the
Chicago area’s rich culture by visiting museums and other
educational venues. Other recreational field trips will serve
as incentives for youth in the program. These trips will likely
include seeing the Chicago Bulls play and other fun activities.
Twice a semester, parents will be invited and encouraged to
attend our Thursday evening parent nights. During these events,
Parents will enjoy food and be able to become acquainted with
the staff. We will also provide professional training for parents
on such topics as depression and positive parenting skills.
The end of the year will culminate in a talent show put on by
youth participants for their parents.
