When I Think of the Future

By L.L., 9th grader at Morton West HS

When I think of the future, life as a sum

Who will I be? What will I become?

Although thunder and lightening lied in my past

In the distance I see a rainbow that will definitely last

I see myself smiling more, making better choices

I see myself not letting fear of the future rain on my life

God will only throw challenges I can handle

If I have control of a situation, I will make it positiv

If I don’t, I will no longer stress or weep, being stuck in the negative

It’s my choice to look ahead and live

When I think of the future, life as a sum

Who will I be? What will I become?

I will battle mental negativity and will replace positivity

I can be my best supporter or worst critic

I can defeat or empower myself, it is my choice

I will express emotional pain through poetry

Expressing physically is a sign of weakness

To myself I will compliment, not criticize

What is the point of telling myself lies?

When I think of the future, life as a sum

Who will I be? What will I become?

I will finish high school with a 4.5

I will be on top of the world, finally alive

I will have a car, more respect, grow a few inches, lessons I’ve collect

In four years I will look how far I have come

After all life is a sum, full of variables

College I will go, Broadway here I come

By the time I’m 30, married with kids

I will be a therapist, poet, motivational speaker

When I think of the future, life as a sum

Who will I be? What will I become?

I will learn to provide my own happiness

I will learn to control my emotions

I will learn to love and trust again

I will learn to charge instead of run

I will learn to love myself

I will learn how to be stronger

I will learn how to accept change

When I think of the future, life as a sum

Who will I be? What will I become?

SUCCESSFUL

The Pain
I feel trapped

Like I’m caged

I wonder why there’s so much pain

CRUSHED

STOMPED

Why do you keep hurting me?

As I lay myself down on the bed

I ask God to hear me now

I’m lost without a cause

After giving them my all

I have tried my best, there’s

no

fighting

left

They gave me so much pain

And I just want it all to
go
away

Tears for me
You all pray for me

God takes care of me

Before i go i ask him

Let me say goodbye

He lets me

I know I am dead

But tears you have shed don’t worry

I’m with my lord

I know your in pain

Don’t let it go to waste on me

People die all the time

But i don’t want to see you cry

I will see you all

In heaven

God will take care of me

Don’t you worry

I cry myself

Before i leave

As i say goodbye

I realize that i will have all your love in my heart

And it will be my remedy
